pretty things made of string

When I was little I remember being read the story of The Ugly Duckling and being really moved by it. The poor little fluffy duckling being picked on because he was different  really struck a chord.

I like making pretty things, and generally stick to traditional acrylic or cotton yarns.

Until yesterday.

I decided that I absolutely, positively had to use a ball of string to make some table mats and coasters.

I used this pattern for the place mats and modified it for the matching coasters.

It turns out the ball of string was just like the Ugly Duckling! I’m really happy with how they turned out. They are a classic vintage style that would look good in any home. There are tiny flecks of random colour in the string which I think adds to their charm.

The table mats and coasters are now available in my etsy store.

I think there must be many more uses for the once dull ball of string. Watch this space for more pretty things made of string!
