custom made baby blanket: bertie blanket inspired by the sea
October 26, 2016
A couple of months ago I received a request for a custom made baby blanket. The new arrival was a little boy named Solomon, and he lives all the way on the other side of the world in New Zealand.
My brief was to use the colours of the sea, and perhaps a bit of yellow to represent his name (Sol). I chose to use 100% cotton yarn, which is 100% baby friendly.
Because the blanket was based on the sea, I knew I should use the wonderful Bertie Blanket pattern. I love this pattern, and while making this one, I have planned many other variations. Watch this space!
By the time it was finished I had over 200 ends to weave in, which made me go ever so slightly cross eyed. I wish I was one of those people who sewed them in as I went.
It was worth going cross eyed though. I am so happy with this custom made baby blanket. It measures 74cm x 96cm (29″ x 38″), so it should keep little Solomon warm for some time.
